outdoor happenings. home edition.

who says you have to go far to have fun? who says you have to get in a vehicle and drive away to explore the world or at least a little part of it?

many times we just open up the front door and venture out onto our 1/4 of a mile long (half paved, half gravel) driveway and call it an adventure...it is really, lots to see and do.

the kids love this driveway. and that was one of the biggest things they missed about tn when we lived in gulf shores..lots of places to move about without so much traffic.

they love the driveway so much, in fact,  that they enjoy getting a head start down the driveway when we are heading out to run errands and such. they do this so "they can get their exercise and become really strong" (that's what they say, really). i also think they like it because it is all down hill and helps them go pretty fast. plus, it's just fun...and that's what being a kid is all about.

funny...the never want to go UP the driveway. it is somewhat steep. but, kids are bursting with energy...hmmmm...something doesn't add up. ;-) most of the time i can't seem to simmer down that energy (not that i would really want to, of course)...but, you know what i mean....if we could bottle up a kids energy we could make some major moolah. ;-) but...alas, they prefer to drive up the driveway. we will work on that. ;-)

just some random shots taken on multiple adventures close to our home...
one thing you should notice...notice how many "ouchies" lily manages to get on her hands...hmmm....

oh, and yes, rocky...those are your boxer shorts i was sportin' in that shot of my feet. haha. hey, they were there, convenient, comfy...and i have missed you. ;-)

have a beautiful, blessed day!

catch and release...

while going through some photos for rocky, i came across this photo of river. this was taken back in august of 2010. this photo was taken by my mother-in-law i do believe. i also believe it was taken on a point and shoot camera. no fancy shmancy camera needed to catch this moment. ;-) though, i am curious how it would have turned out on, let's say, my dream camera, the canon eos 5d mark II, but that's just how my brain works. ;-)

taken at grandma and grandpa's pond.

anywho, i love this shot  for a couple reasons.  one reason is that it shows river's love for fishing. now, being we are veggies and do not eat meat (yes, not even fish)....he just catches and releases...
and reason #2, well...it's just a fun shot. perspective wise, it almost appears that the fish is the same size as river. river thinks that is pretty rad. ;-)

that's all i have time for today as far as a post goes. too much to do and not nearly enough time in the day.

happy day to you!!

the lizard and tree frog hunters..

river and lily, as well as our sweet neighbors, matthew and mariah, love going hunting for lizards and now....tree frogs. oh, little itty bitty frogs are super cute.

matthew let river "frog sit" for him while he was out running errands with his mom a couple days ago..

so naturally, i had to take photos of the frog.

isn't he adorable?

ribbit ribbit

isn't God's handiwork in creation amazing?

yes, super short post..and that's okay. i'm sure there are more lizards and tree frogs to photograph. ;-)

when was the last time you went searching for lizards and tree frogs? ;-)

kelly

mr. turtle...

why did the little turtle set off to cross the road?

to get picked up mid walk, investigated and appreciated by a little family of four, then put back in a safer spot? yes, exactly. ;-)

i just love the markings of the turtle's underside. how beautiful! God is a magnificent artist and creator, indeed!

oh...and update to yesterday's post when i mentioned sunscreen..
i have been doing some research and at this point i cannot yet go ahead with the chemical sunscreens, based on what i know about them.

i have been consulting with friends and also found this website to be very helpful. so, before i throw in the towel on natural sunscreen i am going to try out different brands first..

and it just so happens that two of the natural sunscreens i want to try (from the list and from recommendations) can be found just down the road at target. oh yeah!!

have a beautiful, sunshiny day!!

his dream came true!

so...this week has seen lots of lizard hunts, pool play, and overall lots of time outside..we are so thankful for the pool here, in fact...i would love to have a pool at our home someday...the kids love being in the water {and so do we}.

i pray everyone is having a very blessed holiday weekend!

oh, be sure to stop by my other blog, 'kisses from a coconut'...i almost never post there, but decided that i ought to stop in,say hello, publish the review i did on a product, and of course offer a giveaway, too!! who doesn't like giveaways?? ;-)

the contest runs until sunday, june 5th at 12:00 a.m. CST.

leafy vs. lizard

leafy loves to hunt for lizards. he hasn't caught one yet.
yesterday, though, he came very close...

after being chased for awhile, mr. lizard grew suspicious of leafy...

leafy being sneaky

but, mr. lizard was just too quick.

leafy, i love your determination and down-right cuteness!! i love you!!!

love,
mommy

a spring nature hunt

a time to explore some of God's creation in nature.

leafy, specifically, wanted to look for lizards...the thing about lizards, though,  is that they are quick..thus, we did not "catch" any lizard pictures..

here are some of the pretties we saw and appreciated...

Shout joyfully to God...How awesome are your works.
